To save Veerappan’s name, his daughter Vijayalakshmi makes cinema foray with ‘Maveeran Pillai’. This film, directed by KNR Raja, is based on the life of Veerappan, the smuggler of sandalwood. Veerappan’s daughter Vijayalakshmi is making her film debut by playing the female lead in this film. The film exposes the evils of drinking liquor and how it affects families, especially women.

Producer-director-actor KNR Raja says, “All households are directly or indirectly affected by the evil habit of drinking liquor. This film comes with a social message on banning liquor and creating awareness.”
The music launch of the film was held at Prasad Label, Saligramam, Chennai on Friday. Director KNR Raja, director Perarasu, director Pramesh, Veerappan’s wife Muthulakshmi, Kool Suresh and many others participated in the event.
Veteran character actor Radha Ravi plays as street thetare artist.
Veerappan’s daughter Vijayalakshmi says, “I had a desire to act from an early age. My father lived a life of individual morality and set an example. In the society, women are being degraded in the name of drinking on one side and love on the other. If a film is made focusing on these, people will be aware. That is why I agreed to act in this film. Surely I will save my father’s name without any tarnish, he said.
Commenting on the film, Veerappan’s wife Muthulakshmi also says, “My husband Veerappan was a Tamil nationalist who fought for Tamils in Karnataka when they were being persecuted. He always did not support caste.”
The Karnataka Forest Department has now shot and killed Tamil Nadu fishermen. Would this have happened if my husband had been there? This law does not flow to those in political power. People of Tamil Nadu now feel that they need someone like Veerappan, adds Muthulakshmi.
Manjunath has handled cinematography while the music for the songs has been scored by Ravivarma. With Prem’s background music , Julien has edited the film. Alayamani’s lyrics are superb.
