The train, heading from Chennai International Airport to Wimco Nagar, came to a sudden halt between Central Metro and High Court stations — roughly 500 metres from the Central Railway Station stretch. Commuters said the lights momentarily went off and the rake became immobile, triggering panic among those onboard.
For about ten minutes, passengers described feeling “trapped” with no information from the control room. Videos from inside the stranded coach showed confused commuters holding handrails and trying to understand the situation as they awaited updates. Finally, an announcement informed them that the train could not be moved and evacuation through the tunnel walkway to the nearest station — High Court — was necessary.
CMRL staff and technical teams were quick to respond. Women, elderly passengers and regular commuters were guided carefully along the emergency walkway before reaching High Court station, where additional personnel were deployed to support the crowd and manage movement.
Chennai Metro Rail Limited later confirmed that the disruption stemmed from a technical fault, possibly linked to a momentary power issue. Engineers rectified the snag, after which full services on the Blue Line resumed.

In an official statement on X, CMRL said: “Metro train services between Airport and Wimco Nagar Depot on the Blue Line have resumed normal operation. Services between Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MG Ramachandran Central Metro and St. Thomas Mount on the Green Line are also running as per schedule. We regret the inconvenience caused.”
The breakdown, which lasted over half an hour, disrupted several morning commutes and left passengers visibly distressed. CMRL has launched an internal assessment to identify the exact cause and implement preventive measures to avoid similar disruptions in the future.
