With the objective to increase awareness about breast cancer and its prevention, MGM Cancer Institute in association with Rotary Club of West Nagercoil, Rotary Club of Nagercoil Town, Rotary Club of Eathamozhi organized a ‘WALKATHON’ in Kanyakumari on Saturday.
The walkathon was flagged off by R Muthiah Pillai, Retired, Director General of Employment from Mahatma Gandhi Mandapam and covered till Sunset Viewpoint, Beach Road, Kanyakumari. Meeran Khan Salim, Kanyakumari DSP, A Raja, Kanyakumari Special Municipality President and Stephen were present during the event.

More than 300 college students, doctors and public participated in the walkathon awareness program with great enthusiasm. The event featured Zumba classes handled by experts and had Breast Cancer Awareness talks by Dr Sivaram Ganesamoni – Senior Consultant – Department of Surgical Oncology, Siva.P – CEO, MGM Cancer Institute and Selva Ramaswamy, MGM Healthcare Services.
#PinkOctober is celebrated every year with an objective of spreading awareness about breast cancer and its prevention. Having the theme as “Walk away from Breast Cancer” and “Let’s Walk together to keep breast cancer away”, this year’s purpose of the Walkathon is to extend support in educating and preventing breast cancer. objective to increase awareness about the disease and its prevention. Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women across the globe and in India.
On speaking at the Walkathon, Dr MA Raja, Senior Consultant Medical Oncology, Director – Oncology Services, Chairman, Medical Advisory Board said, “MGM always encourages and conducts such awareness drives and extend our support for the cancer afflicted. It is time that people understood the impact that this disease could have on the society. The purpose is to create awareness and educate more women in understanding the nature of the disease, to be aware and to be prepared.”
