From time immemorial music therapy has been used to help patients cope with stress and promote healing. Music therapy is an evidence-based practice that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. Music has the power to uplift spirits, provide comfort, and encourage healing in times of distress. Having acknowledged this, MGM Healthcare Group brought back MGM Margazhi Season, having seasoned artists perform live for their patients, caregivers, doctors, staff, and the neighbourhood community. This initiative aims to highlight the healing power of music that can be used as an stress-relieving medium for patients and caregivers.
The Indian Choral Ensemble, a forty-member-strong choir that has been a part of movies like Manjummel Boys and Kalki 2898 AD, performed live at the hospital on Sunday. The ensemble performed a repertoire that combines the original compositions with choral renderings of Bharathiyar’s poems and the eternal classics of M S Subbulakshmi. The performance is based on the themes of motherhood, hope, woman power, healing, and celebration. Their unique ability to amalgamate varied voices created magical harmony that left the audience in high spirits.

When used correctly, music can be used as a medium to bring moments of happiness and calmness to patients and caregivers during their road to recovery. It has worked well for our patients, as we have received positive feedback. Having identified this, we have made MGM Margazhi Season a customary affair to celebrate music and healing.
The MGM Margazhi Season kick-started with Carnatic music duos Anahita and Apoorva on 21 December and concludes on the 27th and 28th of December at Muthamizh Peravai, Raja Annamalai Puram, with performances by singers Maalavika Sundar, Sai Vignesh and Harikatha by Yuva Kala Bharathi Suchitra Balasubramanian.
