Achieving a significant milestone in the history of MICA Ahmedabad, the institute unveiled a book documenting its three decades of institution building. The coffee table book titled, ‘Enabling Dreams: The 30-year MICA Journey’, beautifully captures the evolution, achievements, and significant milestones of the institute.
The book is authored by Prof. Shailendra Raj Mehta, President & Director of MICA, Prof. Alan D’Souza, founding member of MICA, and Prof. Shubhra Prateek Gaur, Registrar and Associate Dean of MICA also one of MICA’s senior professors. The coffee table book encapsulates several interesting stories of the institute’s history, position in the industry, pedagogical innovations, and the institution-building process.
Emphasizing the need for institution building, Prof. Shailendra Raj Mehta, President & Director, MICA, said, “Institution-building is extremely important in India and a much-neglected area. While the growth of early IIMs and IITs was well documented, not much existed after that. This need has continued to grow with the current explosion of new universities in India and worldwide. At MICA, we have engaged in many new and interesting experiments which have yielded amazing results. This book documents that institution-building journey and will interest audiences, including academics and others in India and worldwide.”
The book delves into MICA’s conception, highlighting key individuals who shaped its journey, the robust systems and processes encompassing its operations, and the infrastructure supporting its growth. It further explores MICA’s culture that fosters innovation, student-centric activities, and its commitment to social responsibilities through several rural immersions.
Prof. Alan D’Souza, former Executive Director at Mudra Communications and one of the Founding Members of MICA, said, “The book is no ordinary publication. It is the story of a unique Institution, seen through the eyes of those who had the opportunity to participate in it. Makes for inspiring reading.” As Executive Director of Mudra Communications, Prof. D’Souza worked side-by-side with Mr. AG Krishnamurthy to give initial shape to the institution.
The book also recognizes MICA’s outreach efforts, which exhibit its impact beyond its campus walls. The book also celebrates the national and global recognition of MICA, including awards, rewards, and accreditations along with its pedagogical innovations, research orientation, and proactive approach to staying ahead of future trends. Many faculty, alumni, students and staff have contributed to the book.
Elaborating on the title, co-author Prof. Shubhra Prateek Gaur said, “The book encapsulates the nuances of the distinctively unique culture of MICA, which fosters creativity and innovation. It highlights the role of multiple stakeholders in building this great institution over three decades. The title ‘Enabling Dreams’ is the essence of the founders’ futuristic vision and philosophy.
