In a decisive move to accelerate its presence in India’s fast-growing health foods segment, Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries Limited, has acquired Tamil Nadu-based Southern Health Foods Private Limited, the company behind the well-established ‘Manna’ brand.
The acquisition significantly expands RCPL’s foods and staples portfolio — which already includes brands such as Udhaiyam, Independence, and SiL — by strengthening its footprint in millet-based and nutrition-focused categories.
Expanding the Health & Millet Basket
Southern Health Foods has built a strong presence over two decades in health-centric packaged food categories including millets, oats, multigrain products, health mixes, breakfast cereals, and dry fruits. Its flagship brand Manna is widely recognised for millet flour, baby foods, multigrain drink mixes, and other emerging packaged nutrition segments.
With rising consumer preference for nutrient-dense staples and functional foods, the acquisition positions RCPL strategically in the high-growth millet and wellness-driven foods market.
The move aligns with RCPL’s core philosophy of delivering “global quality at affordable price” to millions of Indian consumers while building a meaningful presence in the health foods domain.
Leadership Speak
Commenting on the acquisition, T. Krishnakumar, Director, Reliance Consumer Products Limited, said: “Manna is one of the most trusted names in the health focused foods market in Tamil Nadu with noticeable presence in the adjoining states. It is known for healthy offerings like millet-based staples and mixes, drinks and baby food. Apart from adding muscle to RCPL’s packaged foods portfolio, Manna’s addition will help us serve consumers the best nutritious foods.
With our strong distribution, R&D and supply chain capabilities, Manna would be made available in other geographies – eventually making it a household name across the country.”
National Scale, Local Trust
By leveraging its expansive distribution network, research and development strengths, and supply chain infrastructure, RCPL plans to scale Manna beyond southern markets, taking the regional health brand to pan-India shelves.
The acquisition underscores Reliance’s broader strategy of building a comprehensive, value-driven FMCG portfolio while tapping into India’s rapidly expanding demand for healthy, affordable packaged foods.
