NE EDUCATION BUREAU
MANIPAL, OCT 30

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) –  MAHE on Friday announced that its students have bagged 3rd position at National Online Design Challenge (NOEBDC) organized by Fraternity of Mechanical and Automotive Engineers (FMAE). The competition took place between July-October 2021, involving 16 teams from across the country, says a release.

Congratulating the team on their phenomenal performance, Cdr. (Dr.) Anil Rana, Director, Manipal Institute of Technology said, “We at MIT are extremely proud of Team MotoManipal’s achievement. The team faced tremendous difficulties in the pandemic days and still fought to finish at a respectable position in the competition. Their story displays true grit, determination, perseverance and a never say die attitude. Well done and Keep it up.”

The FMAE Online Electric Bike Design Challenge is an initiative for engineering student teams to get exposure to Design Challenges in India. Teams around the country get an opportunity to design an electric bike powered by 2 KW Brushless DC Motor using different CAD Modelling software. Every team has done complete research and development and must try to develop an efficient Electric Bike.

Our team of 2nd and 3rd year engineering students took part in the competition. We were evaluated on the basis of suspension, brakes, frame, powertrain, system integration, manufacturability and aesthetics. We were provided with a 20-minute time slot to present every detail of the bike. This included everything from the technical aspects to the potential and viability of the bike in the Indian market. This was followed by a question-answer session where we were asked about every minute detail regarding the bike and the business aspect of it as well. MotoManipal aims to improve and take part in such high-calibre events in the near future and continue to make the college proud both at the National as well as international level.

The Team Leader said “It is always a good feeling to finish on the podium in a National Level competition. It was a great learning experience for the entire team. The takeaways from the competition will definitely help us in our future endeavours. Considering the fact that the majority of the work was done online, communication was key. This result would not have been possible without the constant guide and support from our senior team and the college authorities. They have been supportive throughout our journey. We aim to improve and take part in such high-calibre events in the near future and continue to make the college proud both at the National as well as international level. Our main goal now is to participate in MotoStudent – Electric which takes place in Aragon, Spain.”

We did not require any monetary sponsorship as the event was remote and focused mostly on the software aspects. We are grateful to the college authorities for the support and permission to practice for the presentation in AB-3.

1st place was secured by Team Leviathan Moto Racing, 2nd place by Rev Mechanics and MAHE’s Team MotoManipal bags the 3rd position.
