Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his appointment on December 19 to discuss rain and the flood situation in southern parts of the state.

In order to deliberate on the extremely heavy rainfall and flooding in southern districts of Tamil Nadu, related damage and relief and rescue initiatives, Stalin has written to PM Modi seeking his appointment on Tuesday, an official release here said.
It is also to discuss expeditious release of Central funds to the state to tackle damage due to the recent rains in Chennai and nearby districts.

Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi and Tirunelveli are the four southern districts hit by the very heavy rainfall including 95 CM at Kayalpattinam in Thoothukudi.

Due to flooding in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, an estimated 800 train passengers found themselves marooned in Srivaikuntam, as reported by an official on Monday. The individuals affected were those aboard a Chennai-bound express train originating from the temple town of Tiruchendur. Stranded in Srivaikuntam, a region severely affected by floods, these passengers endured nearly 20 hours of immobilization.
Authorities are actively engaged in rescue operations, with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also being notified. The train in question, the Tiruchendur-Chennai Egmore Express (Train No 20606), commenced its journey from Tiruchendur to Chennai at 20:25 hours on December 17.
Due to heavy downpour in southern Tamil Nadu, 40 lakes have in Kovilpatti area reached their full capacity on Monday. The IMD red alert for the selected districts will continue till Tuesday. Due to heavy rainfall, the rivers and lakes around Kovilpatti reached their full capacity and the water is overflowing from the lakes.
Also, after the rainwater started flowing out of the river in the Koosalipatti and Inam Maniyachi areas, sandbags and JCB machines were used to stop the water.
In the meanwhile, after completing his official engagements in Coimbatore, Stalin left for Delhi, officials said.
On Tuesday, he is expected to meet PM Modi and later take part in the fourth meeting of INDIA bloc leaders.
