Actor-turned-politician Kamal Hassan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam General Secretary A Arunachalam joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Prakash Javadekar at the BJP state quarters Kamalalayam in Chennai on Friday.
Hailing from Thoothukudi, Arunachalam was instrumental in laying groundwork in the rural pockets for Makkal Needhi Maiam.
The leader joined in the national party, while MNM leaders is on campaign trail for the forthcoming state election scheduled to be held during April-May 2021.
Though it is considered as a major setback to MNM, its senior leader and former top cop A.G. Mourya said, this has proved the allegations that MNM was the B team of BJP in a tweet.

However, it has been reported that he was not happy with how the party was being run by Kamal Haasan lately and was feeling sidelined during the actor-turned-politician’s ongoing election campaign in the state.
Kamal Haasan began his party’s election campaign earlier this month and it is now in its second leg. He has been a staunch critic of the BJP and ruled out any possibility of joining hands with the Dravidian parties parties for the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.

He however, remains open to the possibility of aligning with Rajinikanth, who is scheduled to launch his own political party in January.
The Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief also recently released a 7-point governance plan for Tamil Nadu, highlighting that the theme of his campaign is “Seeramaipom Thamizhagathai.”
His 7-point governance and economic agenda includes schemes like ‘Green Channel Government’, ‘Online homes’, ‘Providing Urban Opportunities in Rural Areas’ (PURA), ‘Women enrichment’ among others.
