As the first phase of polling to begin on Friday and the hustle-bustle campaigning of various star leaders ended on Thursday evening at 5 pm, Sathish Raja gave an exclusive interview for Navjeevan Express (navjeevanexpress.com).
Here are the excerpts from the interview.
Nearly 50 per cent of voters in Kanyakumari Lok Sabha constituency belong to minorities. Do you think, BJP will get their support?
Yes, I believe that BJP will harvest minority votes in full, as the fear of minorities on Modiji has vanished completely. Did you witness any disturbance or torture on minorities reported in any part of Kumari district since 2014. Main reason for this is, minorities welcomes development initiatives of Modiji. What is the contribution of present MP Vijay Vasanth.
If you spell the name of BJP candidate Pon Radhakrishnan, Marthandam Fly over, Parvathipuram Fly over and Suseendram ring road will come in the minds of the people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has served and won the hearts of 140 crore Indians, especially mothers and sisters. He has done a lot for the betterment of minorities in the last 10 years.
Do you think minorities will forget Manipur violence?
Manipur violence was the conspiracy of opposition parties. Minority communities at the national level are with the BJP. This was sensed by me when I accompanied our State President K Annamalaiji’s ‘En Mann; En Makkal’ Pada Yatra at Vaniyambadi, the Muslim dominated area in Tamil Nadu.
Moreover, the percentage of minorities in central government service has increased to 10.5% which was 5 per cent during the previous Congress government. Ban on Triple Talaq by BJP government was welcomed largely by minority women.
Why BJP did not consider your plea for Kanyakumari LS seat and Pon Radhakrishnan was given the chance for the 10th time, will it affect election campaigning?
Yes it is true, I too claimed Kumari LS seat. Ponnar Annachi is considered as the face of Kumari.
Moreover, his political maturity and experience is the great asset for the party. I will get a chance to work for the people, the day will come.
Ponnar is considered as Banyan Tree, we are all its aerial roots. Hence, there is no hiccup in election related work from us.

You are dreaming that minorities will support BJP in this LS polls?
You must observe the minorities a little more subtly. Mar Joseph Mampilani, Bishop of Thalassery, Kerala, said that he will support the BJP if it increases the price of rubber. Why so much? Didn’t you see that Father Amala Das of Thoothukudi said if Chief Minister Stalin takes part in the centenary celebration of Diocese, he will join the BJP?
Sabarimala in Kerala is a pilgrimage centre for Hindus. Pathanam Thitta is the block that includes Sabarimala. There BJP has fielded a Christian candidate named Aneel Antony. BJP is not a religious party.
Our party is working for the development of the whole nation! Minorities have realized this and will vote for BJP.
