Well-known Ramayana exponent Morari Bapu’s Ram Katha was organised in Zanzibar in East Africa’s Tanzania, which has deep historical and trade links with India. This was Bapu’s 903rd discourse, a journey that started around 1960 when he was just 14 years old.
The famous tourist destination, also famous for spices, was where the nine-day Ram Katha discourse taken place, each day, at Madinat Al Bahr, from Saturday, September 10 till Sunday, September 18, from 10 am – 1 pm local time.
In the Zanzibar Katha, spiritual luminary Morari Bapu picked the topic of “Manas Ramraksha”, pressing the point about unequivocal protection granted by God or our Guru, who is the sole and focal point of our faith.
This was the first time a Ram Katha took place at Zanzibar. The katha was presented in front of a large audience comprising devotees from Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, India, IS, UK, and other places.
On Saturday afternoon, Morari Bapu visited a Hindu temple in Zanzibar and offered prayers. He also paid a courtesy visit to Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi. The President expressed his happiness on meeting the noted spiritual leader. Respected Morari Bapu described the President as a smiling and simple president and felicitated him.

Local parliamentarian Bhagwanji bhai and other prominent members of the Indian community were present during both engagements.
Morari Bapu is a very famous expounder of the famous epic Ramayana written by Goswami Tulsidas. Normally, Bapu picks two lines from the epic and explains them in detail over 9-days adding context from the various sacred scriptures, anecdotes, folklore and more. The idea is to plant the root meaning of these lines and to understand their antecedent and relevance in the larger concept of the text as well as life.
