GANDHINAGAR, MAY 6

Six companies from the Border Security Force and one company from the Central Industrial Security Force have been deployed in Gujarat to enforce the lockdown, Director-General of Gujarat Police Shivanand Jha said on Wednesday. Jha said that a watchful eye is being kept on containment areas across the state including red zones to prevent further transmission of Coronavirus.

StayHomeStaySafe pic.twitter.com/kp3ddhMcsf

“In lockdown 3.0, the implementation of the lockdown will be stricter in the red zone areas with a high transmission rate. More companies of paramilitary force have been deployed. A total of 7 additional companies have been allotted by the Central Government, including 6 BSF and 1 CISF. Out of the 7, 5 companies will be operating in Ahmedabad.  8 companies of paramilitary force have been deputed to enforce the lockdown. A total of 38 companies have been allotted to Ahmedabad city, including the city’s police force, SRP, and paramilitary. Besides, two companies have been deployed at Vadodara and a total of six companies at Surat,” Jha added.

The state police force and paramilitary forces are on duty with high morale. Masks have been provided to them. They have also be provided with proper facilities to wash hands every two hours and sanitize themselves.

Arrangements have also been made in the orange zone and green zone as per the guidelines of the state government to curb the spread of COVID-19. Citizens must adhere to the guidelines in the Red, Orange, and Green Zones. Appealing to the seniors of the religious institutions, Jha said that no gatherings should be held at religious institutions and intensive checking would be done by the police. Action will be taken if people are seen gathering at religious places.

During the lockdown, educational institutions, theaters, party plots, malls, etc., have been instructed to remain closed. Legal action will be taken against them if people gather at these venues. Jha also reiterated that citizens must avoid social, family, and religious gatherings.

Jha said that medical services have been exempted from the lockdown as people need to have access to medical services easily and immediately to prevent corona infection. Hence, doctors can open their clinics. The police department is ensuring assistance to those involved in medical services, including doctors and paramedical staff.
