Speaking at an interaction with over 500 farmers at the Centre for Agricultural Sciences, Vellore, under the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Chouhan said the Union Government is working on integrating 36 schemes implemented across 11 ministries to ensure comprehensive agricultural development in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Thoothukudi, and Ramanathapuram districts.

“The Central Government stands firmly with Tamil Nadu’s farmers. We are committed to ensuring that every deserving farmer in the state is covered under PM-Kisan and other national missions. Integration of our agri-schemes will make farming more profitable, sustainable, and technology-driven,” the Minister said.
During his visit, Chouhan reviewed the implementation of major Central initiatives including the Pradhan Mantri Thanam Dhanyam Agro Yojana, National Pulses Mission, Organic Farming Mission, and Cluster Frontline Demonstrations on Pulses. He interacted directly with beneficiaries to understand their experiences and challenges in agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries.
Highlighting the Centre’s focus on pulse production, Chouhan said the government has launched a nationwide mission to make India self-sufficient in pulses, particularly benefiting Tamil Nadu, which remains a pulses-deficit state.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are ensuring that farmers have access to improved seed varieties, advanced management technologies, and assured marketing. Tamil Nadu will be a key beneficiary of this initiative,” he noted.
On horticulture challenges, the Minister said the Centre is addressing pest and disease threats in coconut cultivation and exploring ways to establish mango value-addition and processing industries to make fruit farming more profitable.
“We recognise the distress among mango growers due to falling prices. The government will encourage setting up of value-addition units so that farmers can earn better returns,” Chouhan assured.
He also praised Tamil Nadu’s farmers for their hard work, discipline, and commitment to sustainable farming, adding that he looks forward to returning soon to discuss organic agriculture and technology-led innovations.
“I have deep admiration for the farmers of Tamil Nadu — their culture, perseverance, and values are exemplary. The future of Indian agriculture depends on such dedicated cultivators,” Chouhan said.
The event was attended by Dr. R. Tamil Vendan, Vice Chancellor of TNAU, and senior officials from the Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Farmers Welfare, along with district heads and progressive farmers.
The Minister also visited exhibition stalls by Central and state agencies, showcasing innovations in organic inputs, soil health, and integrated farming systems, underscoring the government’s focus on a self-reliant, technology-enabled rural economy.
