Inspired by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani’s concern to ensure farmers get remunerative prices for their produce, the State Civil Supplies Corporation has purchased 42,472 Metric Tonnes (MT) of wheat at Minimum Support Price (MSP) worth Rs.28-crore at its 219 purchasing centres from 10,296 farmers till Wednesday, a release said.
“The Corporation had begun purchasing wheat on March 16 last but suspended the operation on March 23 due to countrywide lockdown caused by COVID-19, but renewed it on May 1. It will continue June 30, 2020,” the release added.
Similarly, the Corporation has purchased 11,530 MT of tuar dal at MSP worth Rs.67-crore at 103 purchasing centres from 16,345 farmers. The operation had started on January 1 last, suspended on March 23, but renewed on May 1 and closed on May 22.
