GANDHINAGAR, DECEMBER 1

Anil Mukim, a 1985 batch Gujarat cadre IAS officer, took charge as the 29th chief secretary of Gujarat on Saturday. He was welcomed by the outgoing chief secretary, J N Singh, whose six-month post-retirement extension ended on Saturday.

The Centre had repatriated Mukim, who was Union mines secretary, to his parent cadre after he was appointed the chief secretary of Gujarat on Friday.

The order issued by appointments committee of the cabinet, ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions, department of personnel and training said the Gujarat government had requested the GoI for Mukim’s repatriation to the parent cadre.

Mukim superseded 1984 batch IAS officer Arvind Agrawal, additional chief secretary (ACS), finance, who has left five months of service. Born and brought up in Ahmedabad, Mukim is known for his excellent administrative skills. He last served as additional chief secretary, general administrative department, in the state till February 2016, before getting a posting in the Union government.

Mukim has wide-ranging experience of heading finance, revenue, health & family welfare and other departments in the state government. He also served as the municipal commissioner of Ahmedabad city. Mukim is also one of the few officers who have considerable experience of working in the Union government. Mukim’s tenure will end in August 2020.

Singh was given a grand farewell by senior secretaries before Mukim formally took charge from him. Immediately after returning from Delhi, Mukim met Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel.
