Muslim Leaders Raise Concern Over Varanasi Court Order on Gyanvapi Masjid

Stating that the court order was in direct contravention of the Places of Worship (Special Provision) Act, 1991 that says that the status of a place of worship would continue to remain as it existed on August 15, 1947, the Muslim leaders said that the order has potential to disturb communal harmony and give boost to the politics of hate in the country.

The Muslim leaders said that any conspiracy to bypass the 1991 Act be considered against the nation and national interests. “All conspiracies against this law should be dealt with strictly by the judiciary and all institutions of the government,” the leaders suggested.

Appealing all “peace-loving citizens of this country and those who value democracy along with the ones who believe in the supremacy of the Constitution of India to raise their voice against these trends”, they asked the people to defend the laws that protect the places of worship.

They supported the decision of the Gyanvapi Masjid Committee to challenge the fast-track court order.

Asking Muslim community to go by “the advice, guidance and directions” of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) regarding the “Gyanvapi Masjid Benaras”, they advised the community members to control their emotions and frustrate the attempts of the anti-social elements and communal forces from taking advantage of the “unwarranted” of the fast-track court.

The signatories to the appeal include:

Navaid Hamid, President, All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat.

Syed Sadatullah Hussaini, Ameer, Jamat-e-Islami Hind.

Dr. Manzoor Alam, Secretary General, All India Milli Council.

Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi Salfi, Ameer, Jamiat  Ahle Hadees Hind.

Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, Chairman, Ittehad-e-Millat Council.

Adv. Feroz Ahmed, President, All India Momin Conference.

Ziauddin Nayyar, President, All India Tameer-e-Millat Hyderabad.
