MV Diabetes Royapuram and Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing (APWH), USA on Tuesday announced unveiling the School of Podiatry, first-of-its-kind in India under the banner of Diabetic Foot Research India (DFRI), said Dr Vijay Viswanathan, Chief Physician, MV Diabetes Royapuram.
This School of Podiatry will be based at MV Diabetes Royapuram. The school will train doctors and para medics on the basics of Podiatry like nail care and all the work in Diabetic Foot Care being practiced in MV Diabetes Royapuram.

- To train 25 Tamil Nadu physicians, including 2 paramedical personnel, from Oct 23 to 25 in Chennai on Diabetic Foot Care: Dr Vijay Viswanathan, Chief Physician, MV Diabetes Royapuram
- The participants of the three day workshop will be given a certificate of participation in association with the Tamil Nadu Medical Council, this would enable them to get 6 points of credits
Addressing reporters Dr Vijay Viswanathan said, “The main focus is going to be to on how to look after the feet in people living with Diabetes. How to avoid avoidable amputation among PLWD will be the main goal of this School of Podiatry. Live surgery session from the OT and examination for high risk feet will be taught to the attending doctors and paramedics.’’
The school will train 25 Tamil Nadu physicians, including 2 paramedical personnel, from Oct 23 to 25 in Chennai on Diabetic Foot Care: Dr Vijay Viswanathan, Chief Physician, MV Diabetes Royapuram on free of cost during this fiscal. This initiative will be expanded to doctors in other parts of the country gradually, he added.

According to Dr Antony Irio Adjunct Prof New York College of Podiatric Medicine, one of the faculties in the first program from Oct 23 -25 , the latest in Diabetes care and Diabetic Foot Care will be covered in the first program going to be conducted at MV Diabetes Royapuram.
