AHMEDABAD, DECEMBER 12
The ambitious cycle sharing project under the flagship venture of Smart City Ahmedabad Development Limited (SCADL) is likely to recommence soon. Sources informed that Ahmedabad-based bicycle rental and sharing company MYBYK has bagged the contract from SCADL and is now looking to expand aggressively in the entire city of Ahmedabad.
Commenting on this initiative, CA Arjit Soni, founder of MYBYK said, “It is a perfect partnership where SCADL will invest in providing space and creating common parking infrastructure while operators like us will invest in bicycles, technology, and operations. We are not seeking any subsidy from the government and will have the necessary operational freedom which is essential to make PBS a success.”
Under this project, MYBYK will initially start this bicycle renting business with 1,000 geared bicycles at 100 Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) stations and will expand to 3,000 cycles across 300 stations by March 2020. These stations will be situated at all public transits such as BRTS, AMTS, Metro (future), public parks and similar areas where demand is expected to generate be it for Health, Leisure or First & Last mile connectivity. Initially we will start with geared bicycles and very soon introduce e-scooters also, Soni added.
This eco-friendly transportation mode will give respite to the city residents from regular traffic jam and pollution. Already Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation had created exclusive cycle tracks for the safety of cyclists.
