The under-construction building of the Namakkal Government Medical College collapsed in the wee hours of Friday. As the incident took place around 2 am, no one was injured, said Collector K Megraj.
According to the collector, weak scaffoldings, supporting the concrete roof in the portico area came down abruptly and no one was injured in the incident.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam had jointly laid the foundation stone for the medical college building at an estimated cost of Rs. 339-crore on March 5. The government was intended to inaugurate the new building within a year – before the 2021 assembly election.
Incidentally, there was an IT raid on V Sathya Moorthy, an engineer who runs a private construction company, involved in constructing housing board tenements in various districts, and has also executed projects for the Public Works Department and a few other departments. Moorthy is the contractor of this project, sources said
