Allaying the fears of job loss with the advent of AI in all sectors in the Digital India, Chairman & MD of Cognizant India and Chairperson of NASSCOM Rajesh Nambiar said that as technology evolves rapidly, staying tech-savvy has become essential for success in the industry. Nambiar also exhorted all those who are working now and the job aspirants life-long learning and constant upskilling will help them to stay ahead of times. AI is a blessing in disguise for India as it will create more job than the job loss.
Nambiar went on to say that “to stay ahead in the era of Artificial Intelligence, it is essential to develop new skills and adapt to the changing job market. In the era of AI, it is important to be constantly learning and adapting to new technologies and ways of working. This means keeping up-to-date with the latest trends in your industry. While AI is great at performing routine tasks, it is still far from replicating human emotional intelligence and creativity. Developing soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, and collaboration will be crucial in the era of AI.”
Seconding the Nasscom chief, Harish Mehta, Managing Trustee of Dewang Mehta Foundation Trust and Founder of Onward Technologies Limited said, “In the era of AI, the ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances will be key. This means being willing to learn new skills, take on new responsibilities, and pivot to new career paths. As AI becomes more ubiquitous, there will be increasing demand for workers with specialized skills and knowledge. Already India is facing huge shortage of skilled persons in AI. This technology offers great hope for tech-savvy youth as millions of jobs will be created in this emerging sector.”
They were speaking with media on the sidelines of the “Dewang Mehta IT Awards 2024” ceremony which was organized jointly by Dewang Mehta Foundation Trust, Gujarat Technological University and NASSCOM at Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Ahmedabad.
It is worth mentioning that Rajesh Nambiar delivered a Devang Mehta Memorial Lecture during the event, and the Gujarati version of Harish Mehta’s book, The Maverick Effect (Best Seller), was released on Friday.
This year, the event saw overwhelming participation of Dr. Rajul Gajjar, Respected Vice Chancellor of GTU,. Pradeep Udhas, Industry veteran and Acclaimed Ghazal Artist, and Playback Singer; and Raj Jain, Chairman, Managing Director, and founder of RS Software India Limited, and ex-Chairperson of NASSCOM & Jaimin Shah, Trustee – Dewang Mehta Foundation Trust & Director – Dev IT Limited.
Winners of 12th edition of Dewang Mehta IT Awards 2024
The 12th edition saw a massive response where 170 projects received from 59 Colleges/Universities of Gujarat (IT/CS/EC/IC Faculty) and 15 projects were short-listed by the jury for final assessment.
- A.D. Patel Institute Of Technology- Anand (Non- GTU) students’ team comprising Aditya Sikarvar, Harshiv Patel & Denil Rameshbhai Dubariya were adjudged the first winner for their project ‘ Refreshable Braille Display Vizion’.
- 2nd Winner was from the Government Engineering College, Valsad (GTU). Joshi Mann Chandrakantbhai, Jadeja Dhruvrajsinh D, Patel Hetvi, Patel Mitul, Shewani Simran have presented ‘Digital Platform For Smart Irrigation System.’
- 3rd winner was from the Atmiya University, Rajkot (non- GTU). Kacha Brijraj & Dave Birva have won the prize for their project ‘ VU2 – AI Based Hexa-Wheel Robot.’
Each team received an honour with a prize money of Rs. 1 lac each.
Maverick Effect AI Challenge 2024 was an online challenge where students of Gujarat from the faculties (IT/CS/EC/IC) have participated through online platform available at www.maverickeffectchallenge.com . Total 120 plus teams have participated and jury shortlisted 19 projects for the second round. All 19 teams were called at Ahemdabad for the final presentation.
- 1st winner was from UIT, Karnavati University, Gandhinagar. The team comprising Nishit Chaudhary, Kunjan Parikh, Soni. Their Problem Statement was on Environmental Monitoring and Conservation.
- 1st runner up was from LJIET, Ahmedabad team comprising- Tirth Savalia, Perin Modi, Khushil Shah, Tirth Patel, Vinit Harishbhai Chokshi. Their Problem Statement was on Environmental Monitoring and Conservation.
- 2nd runner up was from Chandubhai S Patel Institute of Technology, Anand. Sneh Shah, Pankil Mukundbhai Soni, Neel Deven Shah team’s Problem Statement was on Healthcare Optimization.
The winning team got the prize of Rs. 1,00,000, 1st Runner’s up – Rs, 90,000 & 2nd Runner’s up – Rs. 80,000
Parallel to all these events, a special recognition was given to the toppers from the Engineering Colleges of Gujarat pertaining to the IT/CS/EC/IC faculties. In total 1,004 toppers from 73 Engineering Colleges/Universities were rewarded on stage. They were presented a Certificate of Appreciation by the Chief Guest.
