From the horse’s mouth
CMIS Chairman Dr. Muralikumar highlighted the importance of blending tradition with modernity. Dr. Muralikumar said, “While today’s youth are heavily reliant on technology, it is equally essential for them to remain connected to the age-old tradition of letter writing. This practice, which fosters stronger bonds of affection between friends, family, and society, cultivates virtues in students that extend beyond the classroom. This event, coordinated in collaboration with the Department of Posts, is a reminder of our cultural heritage and the role letter writing has played in strengthening relationships.”
At the conclusion of the event, students expressed their joy in sending letters, which were posted in a post box set up by the Kalapatti Post Office.
Significance of National Post Day
National Post Day, celebrated annually on October 10, marks the importance of the postal service in India. It follows World Post Day, observed globally on October 9, commemorating the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in Bern, Switzerland, in 1874. In India, National Post Day is part of Postal Week, a series of events organized by the Department of Posts from October 9 to 15.
Despite the rise of modern communication platforms like email, WhatsApp, and social media, the postal service remains integral to handling official correspondence. Additionally, the Department of Posts continues to serve the public through various services, including Registered Post, Express Post, E-Post, Money Order, Parcel Service, and Savings Accounts. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, the postal system serves as a unifying force, connecting rural and urban India and preserving the nation’s rich cultural fabric.
