Navgujarat College of Computer Applications recently marked the celebration of Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Diwas, with a stimulating knowledge sharing session. The idea behind the event was to enlighten students about the Indian Constitution, its values and encourage active citizenship among students.
BCA faculty members – Principal Paresh Patel, Parul Patel, Ankita Gondaliya, Jhanvi Pandya, Rutvi Vijay, Mihir Makwana, and Prousal Patni actively participated in the thought-provoking discussion. Critical topics such as the fundamental rights and duties of citizens, caste-based reservations, and landmark constitutional amendments like the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir were discussed.
Students and library members also actively contributed to the dialogue. Principal Paresh Patel spoke about the values of the Indian Constitution, and elaborated on how fundamental rights empower citizens to seek justice in the Supreme Court when their rights are violated. He also reiterated the significance of India’s secularism, which protects citizens’ religious freedom.
Discussing the Constitution’s federal structure, he shed light on the distribution of powers between the central and state governments, emphasising the socialist vision embedded in the Constitution to promote equality and opportunity.
Patel also underlined the importance of one’s fundamental duties as a citizen and called for a foundation for civic consciousness and social cohesion.
Students not just learnt about the Indian constitutions, its provisions and principles, but were also determined to become responsible citizens, honouring the constitutional values.
