AHMEDABAD, DEC 5
As part of the Navy Day 2020 celebrations, the ‘Beating Retreat’ was organised on Friday at INS Valsura in Jamnagar, a Defence release said.
India celebrates December 4 as the Navy Day to commemorate Operation Trident – a key offensive during the 1971 India-Pakistan War, when the Indian Navy inflicted heavy damage on Pakistani vessels in Karachi harbour. Navy is celebrating this on a grand scale as Swarnim Vijay Year to mark its 50th year.
In addition to soul-touching performances played by the Naval Band at the Beating Retreat, Continuity Drill, PT, and Mashaal Display also formed part of the evening events.
The Continuity Drill showcasing the adept handling of weapons and the Mashaal Display showcasing the physical fitness and courage of the Officer and Sailor trainees left the audience spellbound. The military tunes played by the Valsura Band, including the distant chimes of tube bells, created a mesmerising ambiance and enthralled the audience before the Naval Ensign was lowered at the Sunset ceremony.
To ensure wider reach and following COVID-19 safety protocols, the ceremony was broadcast live to residents of the establishment and Jamnagar city by popular TV channels and on-line portals of the town, the statement said.
