In a major breakthrough towards a Naxal-free Bharat, security forces have neutralised six Naxalites, including Central Committee member Ganesh Uike, in an ongoing operation in Kandhmal district of Odisha. The operation marks one of the most significant blows to left-wing extremism in recent years and places Odisha at the threshold of becoming completely free from Naxalism.
Reflecting the government’s resolve, the Home Minister’s Office said in a post on X:

“A significant milestone towards Naxal-free Bharat. In a major operation in Kandhmal, Odisha, 6 Naxalites, including Central Committee Member Ganesh Uike, have been neutralized so far. With this major breakthrough, Odisha stands at the threshold of becoming completely free from Naxalism. We are resolved to eliminate Naxalism before the 31st of March 2026.”
Security analysts and citizens alike echoed the sentiment on social media, with many calling the Kandhmal success proof that sustained operations, intelligence-led policing and development-focused governance can decisively weaken insurgent ecosystems.
Complementing this on-ground success, India’s counter-terrorism architecture is being further strengthened with the two-day Anti-Terror Conference set to begin on December 26 in New Delhi. Organised by the National Investigation Agency under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the conference has evolved into a key platform for shaping next-generation strategies against terrorism and emerging hybrid threats.
Aligned with the national doctrine of zero tolerance for terror, the conference brings together operational forces, senior police leadership from States and Union Territories, central agencies, and experts from legal, forensic and technological domains. Its focus is on building seamless coordination, improving investigative outcomes and developing future-ready counter-terror frameworks through a Whole of Government approach.
Deliberations will cover critical areas such as digital forensics, terror financing networks, evidence collection from foreign jurisdictions, effective trial management, counter-radicalisation strategies, espionage and emerging security challenges. The emphasis is on translating shared experiences and best practices into actionable policy inputs.
Taken together, the Kandhmal operation and the Anti-Terror Conference underscore the impact of consistent and decisive governance on national security. From neutralising top insurgent leadership in remote districts to refining institutional capabilities in the national capital, India’s approach reflects clarity of purpose and confidence in execution.
With a publicly stated deadline of March 31, 2026, for eliminating Naxalism, and a continuously evolving counter-terror strategy, the message is unambiguous: sustained governance, coordinated action and accountability are steadily closing the space for extremism in all its forms.
