NLC India Ltd. announced on Monday that it has signed a coal mine development and production agreement for the Machhakata coal mine in Odisha.
The ‘Navratna’ company won the bid for the Machhakata (revised) coal mine in Odisha’s Angul district during the Ministry of Coal’s eigth round of commercial coal block e-auction, according to an NLC India release. The coal block boasts an estimated coal reserve of 1.38 Billion Tonnes (approximately) with an opera table peak-rated capacity of 30 Million Tonnes Per Annum.
This is the second commercial coal mine block won by NLC India after North Dhadu Coal Block (Western Part) and the Company is committed to its capacity addition in line with its vision of achieving more than 100 MTPA by 2030 from the present 50 MTPA.
Coal produced from this coal block will help in addressing the energy security of the country indigenously. It also paves way for contemplating alternative means of energy production from coal like gasification thus meeting sustainability requirements.
