Fraud built on forged documents
The case, registered on September 29, 2015, was based on a complaint by Indian Bank, Chennai North Zone.
Investigations revealed that the accused, along with others including K Rajendran, proprietor of Sri Sai Baba Real Estates and Constructions, and a firm of chartered accountants, allegedly cheated the bank by submitting forged documents to secure multiple home loans, causing a loss of ₹4.66 crore.
CBI filed a charge sheet on March 14, 2017, against 33 accused, including M Naga Kumar.
Hiding in plain sight
According to investigators, the accused had assumed a new identity as Tamil Selvan, even altering official documents, and was living in Chennai with his wife to evade arrest.
“Despite the accused changing identity and remaining absconding for years, coordinated efforts using sophisticated tools and extensive field operations led to his identification and arrest,” sources indicated.
Law catches up—always
CBI teams conducted discreet surveillance and verification before zeroing in on the accused and taking him into custody.
“This arrest underscores that no matter how long it takes, offenders cannot escape the reach of law enforcement agencies,” officials emphasised.
The accused was produced before the competent court in Chennai and has been remanded to judicial custody.
