While no death was recorded on October 18 for the first time this month, no fatalities were added in the last two days, Rao said at a virtual press conference. The toll in the union territory remained at 588.
He said the 147 fresh cases were identified at the end of examination of 3,570 samples taking the overall tally to 34,482 (after transfer of one case to Tamil Nadu).
While the number of active cases stood at 3,741, as many as 30,153 were cured and discharged, he added.
Of the 147 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours, the Puducherry region alone had 72, followed by Karaikal (10), Yanam (30) and Mahe (35).
The Health Minister said as many as 163 patients were discharged during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM on Tuesday. He said the fatality and recovery rates were 1.71 per cent and 87.45 per cent respectively.
As many as 2.93 lakh samples were tested so far and it was found that 2.56 lakh of them were found to be negative and the result of examination of remaining was awaited.
The Minister said the people should not lower their guard in the battle against COVID-19 and should not be complacent because the number of cases was on the decline.
“A bit of carelessness and complacency would offer scope for the infection to become intensive. Hence, safety norms should be adhered to, particularly during the forthcoming Deepavali festival,” he said.
