A refurbished non-vegetarian refreshment room with ample ambience was thrown open to public at Platform No. 3 / 4 of Salem railway station on Monday.
The Salem Divisional Railway Manager U. Subba Rao inaugurated the refreshment room in the presence of the Senior Divisional Commercial manager E. Harikrishnan.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has tendered out the contract.
The refurbished unit will cater to both veg and non-veg takers and it has two separate sections, one for vegetarian and another for non-vegetarian.
This unit has been designed and constructed akin to the canteens at airports and its operational control is coming under the IRCTC.
The refreshment room fitted with CCTV and would be constantly monitored by the IRCTC officials.
Modern equipments were commissioned in the kitchen area. Similar type of facility was inaugrated at Coimbatore junction during last month.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Harikrishnan said that new base kitchen will commence functioning and will cater to the food needs of mobile units (running trains) by the end of January next year.
