Southern Railway celebrated the 77th Republic Day with patriotic fervour on Monday at the Railway Stadium, Perambur, Chennai, reaffirming its commitment to national service, unity and progress.

R.N. Singh, General Manager, Southern Railway, unfurled the National Flag in the presence of K. Arul Jothi, IG-cum-Principal Chief Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and took the salute at an impressive RPF parade, comprising contingents from the RPF, Women Platoons, and the St John’s Ambulance Brigade.

The Republic Day celebrations was attended by Naveen Gulati, Former Member, Railway Board; Vipin Kumar, Additional General Manager; Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway; Shailendra Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai; Sonia Singh, President, Southern Railway Women’s Headquarters Organisation; Charu Gupta, Vice President, Southern Railway Women’s Headquarters Organisation, along with Railway officers, staff and their family members, and representatives of labour unions and associations of Southern Railway.
Addressing the gathering, General Manager R.N. Singh said that Indian Railways takes pride in its committed workforce, whose dedicated efforts have played a vital role in the nation’s growth and integration. He underlined Southern Railway’s steady contribution to the development of Indian Railways, achieved through continuous expansion and modernisation of the rail network, coupled with the introduction of improved, passenger-friendly services. The performance highlights of the Zone across various operational domains were also outlined during the address.
Following the Flag Unfurling and March Past, the celebrations continued with cultural programmes by the RPF, an impressive Dog Show by the Southern Railway Dog Squad, and performances by various departments, including students from Railway Schools and the Ashraya School for special children, drawing warm appreciation from the audience.
As part of the nationwide observance, Sushil Kumar Maurya, Chief Administrative Officer, Railway Construction Organisation, Egmore; Shailendra Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai; and D. Neelakantan, Chief Workshop Manager, Perambur Loco Works, unfurled the National Flag at their respective railway offices in Chennai.
Similarly, Jayanthi, Additional Registrar, Railway Claims Tribunal, Chennai, and Smt Pratibha Devendra Yadav, Chairman, Railway Recruitment Board, Chennai, unfurled the National Flag at their respective offices, marking the Republic Day celebrations across Southern Railway establishments in the city.
Republic Day Celebrations at the Ashraya School for Special Children

As part of the 77th Republic Day celebrations, Smt. Sonia Singh, President, Southern Railway Women’s Welfare Headquarters Organisation (SRWHQO) unfurled the National Flag at Ashraya Special School, a special school run by SRWHQO, and distributed gifts to the special children. Smt Charu Gupta, Vice President, SRWHQO and other members of the organisation, were present.
Ashraya Special School, functioning under SRWHQO, provides care, education and skill-based training to children with special needs, enabling their holistic development in a safe and nurturing environment. This railway school is a pioneer in offering vocational training and individualised training programmes to the students besides imparting yoga, physiotherapy, sports and computer education.
Subsequently, Smt. Sonia Singh visited the Central Railway Hospital, Perambur, where she interacted with inpatients and distributed essential items to the patients on behalf of SRWHQO, spreading cheer and conveying Republic Day greetings.
