Shantaram R and Ramaswamy N were awarded the rolling trophy by Suresh Kannan, Business Head and Whole Time Director, Parry Sugars Refinery Private Limited for the Madras Quiz 2024 held at the Madras Management Association auditorium here on Sunday. Running for the 20th year in a row, the quiz hosted by quizmaster Dr Sumanth C Raman, attracted over 140 teams, with questions ranging from the past to the contemporary.
Kannan spoke about the Murugappa Group’s connect to the city of Chennai and how he has lived here for 25 years, as a student and as a working professional. “Madras is an emotion,” said Kannan, “and the people of Chennai are interconnected.” Kannan also emphasised the importance of live quizzes and how he was pleased that the Group continued to support this format.
Mithraa and Aniruddh, and Deepa Alexander and Srinivasa Ramanujam, won the second and third runners-up places respectively.
The best women, senior citizen and school student teams were awarded special prizes, along with a prize for the best team name.
The Madras Quiz, supported by the Murugappa Group, has become one of the most awaited quizzing events of Chennai, known as the quizzing capital of India. Ardent quizzers, both old and young came on a Sunday afternoon to spend their day quizzing on all things Madras.
Winning teams received CholaMS trophies and backpacks, gift hampers from EID Parry and Parry Agro, and goodies from the Murugappa Group.
In celebration of Madras Week, the Murugappa Group launched an online contemporary contest titled, “What Does Madras Mean to You?” This engaging contest invited participants to share their response for the ‘Chennai na, Madras na’ stories.
