As part of the Coast Guard Week activities, the Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 1 (South Gujarat, Daman and Diu) conducted a Coastal Cleanup Drive at the iconic Chowpati Beach, Porbandar on Sunday.
A total of 350 from the Indian Coast Guard, school students and faculty of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mount Litera Zee School, as well as cadets from 4 Gujarat Naval NCC unit took part in the event. This collaborative effort was aimed at tackling the burgeoning plastic menace at Chowpati Beach, raising awareness about responsible waste disposal, motivating students and local communities to actively participate in coastal conservation efforts, and fostering a sense of responsibility towards the marine environment.
The cleanup effort yielded around 300 kgs of plastic waste which was collected from the area and disposed of in an environment friendly manner. By encouraging responsible waste disposal, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering active participation, this initiative hopes to create a lasting impact on the city’s relationship with its precious coastline.
