PUDUCHERRY, DEC 17
The Federation of Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Associations on Monday urged the Puducherry government to fix Rs. 2,500 per quintal as minimum support price (MSP) for paddy.
The Federation president P.R. Pandian has submitted a petition to the Puducherry Chief Minister N. Narayanasamy.
After submitting the petition, the Federation president P.R. Pandian told reporters that the Chief Minister has assured to look into their demands.
The federation claimed that the Chattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh government are giving Rs. 2500 per quintal for paddy.
Pandian condemned the anti-farmer attitude of the Lieutenant Governor Kiren Bedi, as a proposal sent by the Puducherry government to extend interest-free crop loan to farmers is pending with her for a long time.
The Lt. Governor who is acting against the interest of the people should be withdrawn by the central government, he added.
The Association is also staged a protest in Chennai to press the TN government to fix minimum support price of Rs. 2,500 per quintal for paddy on Tuesday.
