AHMEDABAD, DEC 21
In an effort to improve the passenger amenities and facilitate hassle-free travel for the poor who travel in unreserved general coaches, Ahmedabad Division of the Western Railways has introduced biometric tokens. All that one has to do is to collect a token issued from one of the newly installed biometric machines at Ahmedabad railway station. This biometric token will ensure the passenger a seat in an unreserved compartment.
This token will be issued on first-come-first-served basis to passengers.
This new passenger-friendly facility was inaugurated by Divisional Railway Manager Dineshkumar Jha and Senior Divisional security commissioner S S Ahmad here on Friday.
Commenting on this new system, Gracious Fernandez, Railway Protection Force inspector, Ahmedabad, said, “Passengers travelling in general class will have to buy a ticket from the window and then take a biometric token if they want a confirmed seat. If they have a number within the coach seating capacity the RPF will ensure that they get the seat if they are entitled.”
Ahmedabad Railways has installed four biometric token machines on Kalupur station. Two of these machines have been installed on Platform 10 and the remaining two are on platforms 6 and 7.
The passenger will have to give a thumb print on the machine to get the token and the token will have a picture of the passenger.
