Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday paid tributes to India’s first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his death anniversary, saying his unparalleled effort in integrating more than 560 princely states with the Indian Union will forever inspire every citizen.
Patel is credited with unifying hundreds of princely states with the Union of India following independence through a mix of persuasion, dialogue, and even use of force when required.
“My humble tributes to the leader I admire most — the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel — on his death anniversary. His contribution to the Indian freedom struggle and his unparalleled effort in integrating more than 560 princely states with the Indian Union will forever inspire every Indian,” the vice-president secretariat tweeted quoting Naidu.

Paying tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his death anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed him as the “iron man” who laid the foundation of a strong and prosperous India.
The path shown by him will always inspire us to protect the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of the country, he said in a tweet.
Patel, a freedom fighter who became India’s first home minister and deputy prime minister, is credited with unifying hundreds of princely states with the Union of India following independence through a mix of persuasion, dialogue, and even use of force when required.

The Congress on Tuesday paid tributes to India’s first deputy prime minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his death anniversary, with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra underlining the importance of remembering his principles at a time when farmers are protesting against the new agri laws.
Patel, a freedom fighter who also became India’s first home minister, is credited with unifying hundreds of princely states into the Union of India following independence through a mix of persuasion, dialogue, and even use of force when required.
“On his death anniversary, we pay solemn tribute to India”s Sardar, the man behind a united India, Shri Vallabhbhai Patel,” the Congress said on its official Twitter handle.
“As a brave freedom fighter & the nation’s first Deputy PM, his innumerable contributions to nation-building inspire countless Indians even today,” the party said.
In a Facebook post in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi shared Patel’s quote that “my only wish is that India should be a good producer and no one in this country should shed tears while being hungry”.
“Tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his death anniversary. Today when ”annadaatas” (food providers) are themselves shedding tears, we need to consider the principles of Sardar Patel.”
In her tribute to Patel, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said in a tweet in Hindi, “The British threatened the farmers of Bardoli with things like property attachment, but under the leadership of Sardar Patel, the farmers did not back off and their Satyagraha won.”
“On the death anniversary of Sardar Patel today, there is a need to tell this government that farmers are not afraid of false propaganda and threats,” she said.
Several other Congress leaders, including chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Abhishek Singhvi, and Sachin Pilot, also paid rich tributes to Patel.
The prime minister has often expressed his deep admiration and respect for him and has been the brain behind the Statue of Unity project in Gujarat, a tribute to Patel who had passed away in 1950.
