Headquarters Dakshin Bharat Area has organised ‘Swarnim Vijay Run’ on Sunday (February 21, 2021) with the theme “Run For Your Heroes” in Chennai as part of the year-long celebration of 50th anniversary year of victory of Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 Indo-Pak War.
The historic victory is being celebrated with much fanfare all over the country as ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ (Golden Jubilee Year of Victory).
The run was conducted under three categories of 2 km, 5 km and 10 km. More than 700 people from all walks of life including war veterans, youth, ladies and children took part in the run with great enthusiasm.
The event was also graced by various civil dignitaries including Rajeev Ranjan, IAS, Chief Secretary TN and AS Rajan, Special Director, SIB.
Col A Krishnaswamy, Vr C, VSM* (Retd), a war hero of the 1971 Indo-Pak War, who was awarded Vir Chakra for his bravery flagged off the run.
Lt Gen A Arun, GOC-Dakshin Bharat Area thanked all the participants, volunteers and media persons for making the event a huge success.
There was display of Military Band, Arms and equipment and military horses in the venue, which was a great attraction for the participants and visitors. Dakshin Bharat Area is under the Southern Command of Indian Army with headquarters in Chennai.
