Chennai Division of the Southern Railway on Friday fetched Rs 1.1 crore in the Pilot Project of e-auctioning, says a release.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched e-auction for Commercial earning, Non-Fare Revenue (NFR) contracts in Rail Bhavan, New Delhi on Friday.
This will not only increase Railways earning but also bolster efforts being taken by the Government for ease of doing business.
In order to catch up with the fast evolving technological advancements, the Indian Railways have enabled a system of “e-auctioning” for earning contracts such as advertising, parking, parcel space leasing etc., in its tendering portal. 3,045 assets have been created in the portal till date and are ready to be e-auctioned by Southern Railway.

- Southern Railway has mapped 3,045 assets on e-auctioning module as on date
- Korukkupet, Guindy and Parcel Space of Train No.22611 Chennai Central – New Jalpaiguri Express, were the assets auctioned
As a pilot project, Chennai Division spearheaded the process for this and has successfully awarded three tenders through E-Auction one each from Parking, Advertising and Parcel Leasing with a total contract value of Rs 24,63,750, Rs 49,59,000 and Rs 36,51,168, respectively.
The total contract value was Rs 1,10,73,918.
Korukkupet, Guindy and Parcel Space of Train No.22611 Chennai Central – New Jalpaiguri Express, were the assets auctioned and contracts have been awarded for a total period of 3 years for parking and advertising and 2 years for parcel leasing.
