Despite the economic impact of the Covid-19, the Tamil Nadu government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister M K Stalin is working towards achieving the ambitious goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy, said State Minister for Industries, Tamil Official Language, Tamil Culture and Archeology, Thangam Thennarasu here on Friday.
Addressing the Chamber day celebrations of the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce, the minister said that the onus of the corporate houses have now been changed from the single bottomline of ‘profits’ to the triple bottom line of planets, people and profits.

Presenting the Business Excellence and Humanity Awards for the year 2022 to the century-old tech-savvy City Union Bank, Caplin Point Laboratories Ltd and the Madras Dyslexia Association, Thangam Thennarasu said, “The Government of Tamil Nadu is extending all kinds of support to the corporates to sustain and grow their business. Today’s awardees are truly deserving. I have no doubt that the chamber and these organisations and industries will take Tamil Nadu to $1 trillion economy as envisaged by the Chief Minister.”
The minister also said that trade bodies like Chamber of Commerce are very important as they convey their requirements in one voice to the policy and decision-makers.
“Tamil Nadu has shown lot of reliance in the past, has withstood many a crisis, and is equipped to face the current tides. The chamber should act as the medium to channelise the corporate social responsibility to ensure inclusive growth for better results. The Chamber’s roles and responsibilities should be manifold and intone with the State’s progress,” the Minister added.

On behalf of the City Union Bank (CUB) its MD and CEO N Kamakodi received the award. C C Parthiban, Chairman of Caplin Point Laboratories Ltd and D Chandrasekar, President of Madras Dyslexia Association also received the award.

In his acceptance address, City Union Bank, Managing Director and CEO Dr N Kamakodi said that the bank will strive hard for the development of agriculture and SME sectors to fulfill the motto of the founders.
Dr Kamakodi said he would dedicate the business excellence award to all employees who have worked from 1904 and working now.
The Kumbakonam-based CUB with over 700 branches across India was founded in the year 1904 with a vision to help sustain agriculture and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
D Chandrasekar, President of the Madras Dyslexia Association appealed the corporates to liberally allocate CSR funds for the development of the welfare of the children affected with Dyslexia.
The minister also honoured the past presidents of the chambers with a citation.
C K Suresh, President of the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce welcomed the gathering and V Nagappan, President-elect proposed the vote of thanks.
