AHMEDABAD, JULY 2
The 135 Mahila Battalion of CRPF led by Commandant Mamta Singh organised a fortnight-long tree plantation campaign at Sadra village, Alampur village, Jakshani Mata Mandir Sansthaan in and around and on the premises of Group Centre CRPF, Gandhinagar, a Defence release said.
“The year 2020 has been declared as The Year of Awakening – “Feelings of Heart” (“Mann ki Samvednao”) by the Union Home Minister, Government of India. As part of its public reach programme, the ‘Plant Trees, Save Life’ campaign was carried out with the active support of villagers, peoples’ representatives, and personnel of the battalion. Nearly 10,000 saplings of Neem, Arjun, Sahjan (Drumstick), Peepal, Banyan, Gulmohar, Ashok, Amrudh (Guava), Curry, Imli (Tamarind), Jamun (Blackberry), Jacaranda, Amaltas and Mango were planted from June 17 to June 29 to increase the green cover,” the Commandant said.
Speaking on the benefits of this tree plantation drive, Mamta Singh, Commandant 135 (Mahila) Battalion, said, “Increase in green cover will help in maintaining the environmental balance, the wealth of the priceless nature. This will also inspire the future generation to involve in tree plantation and protection.”
The battalion also planted several saplings on the premises of Gujarat Vidyapith at Sadra, Gandhinagar, where Dean of Gujarat Vidyapith Prabhu Lal Mahadev, Principal Ramesh Bhai Patel, and other staff members extended their help. They also assured the battalion that their students will take the complete responsibility of one plant, each.
Deputy Inspector General J N Kohli, Second Command Officer B K Sharma, subordinate officers and personnel, Sarpanch of Alampur Suryaben, and the rural people also participated in this green drive.
