KEVADIA, OCT 31

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a series of development projects worth ₹1,219 crore in Kevadia, Gujarat, on the eve of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary. The initiatives mark another milestone in transforming Kevadia—home to the Statue of Unity—into a world-class tourism and cultural destination.

Among the key projects inaugurated were the Birsa Munda Bhavan, an iconic centre dedicated to tribal freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda, a residential complex for GSEC and SSNNL employees, the first phase of the Hospitality District, and a Bonsai Garden aimed at enhancing the region’s biodiversity attractions.

Emphasising sustainable mobility, the Prime Minister also flagged off a fleet of electric buses, designed to provide comfortable and eco-friendly transportation to visitors exploring the Statue of Unity complex and its adjoining attractions.

In a symbolic tribute to India’s Iron Man, Shri Modi released a commemorative coin and postage stamp honouring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, celebrating his towering role in national integration and unity.

During his visit, the Prime Minister met members of Sardar Patel’s family, expressing heartfelt appreciation for Patel’s monumental contribution to building a unified India. “It was a delight to interact with them and recall Sardar Patel’s unwavering commitment to the nation,” he said.

Later in the evening, the Prime Minister attended a cultural programme in Kevadia depicting the life and legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, highlighting his leadership during India’s freedom struggle and his visionary efforts in consolidating over 560 princely states into a single nation.

Taking to X, Shri Modi posted:

“A boost to Kevadia’s infrastructure! Key development works worth ₹1,219 crore were inaugurated or their foundation stones laid this evening — including Birsa Munda Bhavan, a residential complex for GSEC and SSNNL employees, the first phase of the hospitality district, and the Bonsai Garden.”

He further added, “On the eve of Sardar Patel’s 150th Jayanti, reached Kevadia to attend various programmes — beginning with flagging off electric buses for sustainable transport, releasing a special coin and stamp, and meeting the family of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.”

The series of events in Kevadia reaffirm the government’s commitment to preserving the legacy of Sardar Patel while driving sustainable and inclusive development in one of India’s most iconic destinations.
