Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a video address at an event organised by the Defence Ministry to dedicate seven new defence companies to the nation on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami on Friday, the PMO said on Thursday.

On the special occasion of Vijaya Dashami tomorrow, 15th October, seven new defence companies would be dedicated to the nation. This is a part of our efforts to modernise the defence sector and create an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.https://t.co/2LDicOJOOo

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and representatives from the defence industry associations will be present on the occasion.

Referring to the seven new defence companies, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said the government has decided to convert Ordnance Factory Board from a department into seven fully government-owned corporate entities as a measure to improve self-reliance in the country’s defence preparedness.

This move will bring about enhanced functional autonomy and efficiency and will unleash new growth potential and innovation, it said.

The seven new defence companies that have been incorporated are Munitions India Limited (MIL), Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVANI), Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWE India), Troop Comforts Limited (TCL), Yantra India Limited (YIL), India Optel Limited (IOL) and Gliders India Limited (GIL), the PMO said.

Company Profile of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVANI)

AVNL is a multi-product, multi-technology and multi-unit defence conglomerate. It has been incorporated on 14th August, 2021 with the following Production and non-Production Units:

1. Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi 1. Institute of Learning, Avadi
2. Engine Factory, Avadi 2. Institute of Learning, Medak
3. Ordnance Factory, Medak 3. Institute of Learning, Ambernath
4. Vehicle Factory, Jabalpur 4. AVNL Branch Office, Mumbai
5. Machine Tool Prototype Factory, Ambernath 5. Armoured Vehicle Head Quarter, Avadi

As per the decision of the Government, AVNL has commenced its operations with effect from 01.10.2021. It has world-class infrastructure and state-of-the-art technology and around 12,000 committed and highly skilled workforce.

The main products of AVNL are Battle Tanks, ICVs, Military Mobility solutions, engines and other accessories. The products are all time tested and have served as the source of strength for the Armed Forces, Paramilitary Forces and Home Land Security agencies. The fundamentals of the Company are strong, as AVNL has an order book position in excess of Rs. 31,000 crores.

  1. Ordnance Factory, Medak

  1. Machine Tool Prototype Factory, Ambernath

KAVACH MOD-II, Gear Box for BMP, Fuze FB 40, EPD Fuze 155, Transmission Gear Unit and Wheel Carriage Assembly, according to a release from Defence PRO in Chennai.
