Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address 1 Lac farmers to mark the 50 years of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) in Ahmedabad on February 22. GCMMF, also known as Amul Federation, is the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative and the apex organisation of dairy cooperative unions in Gujarat which markets dairy products under ‘Amul’ brand.
The Honourable Prime Minister will address 1 lac dairy farmers from Gujarat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad which marks a significant milestone in GCMMF’s journey of empowering millions of dairy farmers.
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will be the guest of honour on the occasion. Gujarat Governor, Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister of Fishing, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala will also grace the occasion.
Lok Sabha MP, CR Patil, Gujarat Assembly Speaker, Shankar Chaudhary, Gujarat Assembly Deputy Speaker, Jethabhai Ahir, Minister of State for Cooperation & Industries, Jagdish Vishwakarma, State Agriculture Minister, Raghav Patel, and office bearers of dairy cooperatives will also grace the occasion.
GCMMF came into existence on July 9, 1973, when six dairy cooperatives came together under the leadership of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the Milkman of India, to market milk and milk products under the brand name Amul. GCMMF presently has 18 member unions with more than 36 lakh farmers across 18,600 villages in Gujarat. Amul Federation’s member dairies procure more than 3 crore litres of milk per day. Amul Federation markets more than 50 dairy products through a network of 86 branches, 15000 distributors and 10 lac retailers across India apart from exporting to more than 50 countries as well.
The Golden Jubilee celebration of GCMMF signifies fifty years of dedication, innovation, and excellence in the dairy industry. It is a testament to the collective efforts of all stakeholders who have contributed to its remarkable journey. The event will not only mark the accomplishments of the past but also pave the way for an even more promising future.
GCMMF had a group turnover of Rs. 72,000 Crore in the last financial year, making Amul the largest FMCG brand in India and the 8th largest dairy organisation in the world. In the last 50 years, GCMMF has been successful in standing true to the principle of being a bridge between dairy farmers and consumers. Member unions of GCMMF have set up a network of 98 dairy plants across the country to meet the demand for milk and milk products.
