AHMEDABAD, SEP 24
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the world’s first CNG Terminal and Brown Field Port on September 29 in Bhavnagar in poll-bound Gujarat.
The construction will be undertaken by Foresight Group, which signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Business Summit 2019. The MoU intended to ensure the development of a CNG Terminal in the state.
The port’s development will cost around Rs 4,000 crore and will have state-of-the-art infrastructure for the CNG Terminal with the world’s fourth largest lock gate system.
Besides the CNG Terminal, the port will also cater to upcoming projects such as vehicle scrapping, container manufacturing, and other mega projects, including Dholera Special Investment Region.
The port will reportedly be equipped with an ultra-modern Container Terminal, Multipurpose Terminal, and Liquid Terminal with direct door-step connectivity to the existing roadways.
It would have railway networks connecting to the largest industrial zones, dedicated freight corridors and the Northern hinterland of the country.
The proposed port would also yield several economic benefits and cost-cutting with more cargo volume handling at less inland distance travel. The port would potentially generate direct and indirect employment for 1100 people and increase ancillary port-related service opportunities.
Moreover, the CNG Import Terminal would provide an additional alternate source of energy to meet the growing demand for clean energy.
The promoters have already signed an agreement to supply CNG and develop the CNG Export Terminal with RAK Gas, Ras Al Khaimah. Once operational, the supply mechanism of CNG will likely enable India to tap small-scale and stranded gas volumes that are yet to be utilised. The construction of the port is expected to commence in the first half of 2023 and could be operational by 2026.
The prime minister will also inaugurate the Regional Science Centre (RSC) in Bhavnagar, which is built on 20 acres at the cost of Rs 100 crore. The RSC has several features.
The Regional Science Centre (RSC) Bhavnagar is situated near Das Nala, Nari Gam, Ahmedabad highway, Bhavnagar.
