PM to flag off 2nd MGR Chennai Central-Mysuru Vande Bharat Exp tomorrow

An additional Vande Bharat Express train between Dr MGR Chennai Central – Mysuru will start operations from April 4. In Southern Railway, the Pit line at Basin Bridge, Rail Coach Restaurant at Dr MGR Central, Jan Aushadi Kendras at 4 locations, Goods sheds at 6 locations and One Station One Product Stalls at 205 stations will also be dedicated by Prime Minister on Tuesday, said RN Singh, General Manager, Southern Railway.

Kaushal Kishore, Additional General Manager and Principal Heads of Department of Southern Railway were also present at the press meet.

The second Vande Bharat Express between Dr MGR Chennai Central – Mysuru will be flagged-off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing from Dr MGR Chennai Central tomorrow through Video Conference.  Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L Murugan will take part in the flag off ceremony at Dr MGR Chennai Central.

The new service, the second exclusive Vande Bharat between the cities, is also the third premium service in the corridor. Benefiting professionals, businessmen and students travelling regularly between the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru, the new service has been provided stoppage at Katpadi, Krishnarajapuram, Bengaluru and Mandya.

The new Vande Bharat T.No.20663/20664 will ply between Dr MGR Central and SMVT Bengaluru from 14.03.2024 to 04.04.2024 with stoppages at Katpadi and Krishnarajapuram. With effect from 5th April 2024, the service will be operated up to Mysuru via Katpadi, KSR Bengaluru and Mandya. These trains will have eight coaches.

Regular Service of Train No. 20663/20664 Mysuru – Dr MGR Chennai Central – Mysuru Vande Bharat Express (Except Wednesdays)

The regular service of Train No. 20663/20664 Mysuru – Dr MGR Chennai Central – Mysuru Vande Bharat Express (Except Wednesday) will run between Dr MGR Chennai Central – SMVT Bengaluru – Dr MGR Chennai Central up to 04th April, 2024 (Thursday).

Accordingly, Train No. 20664 will leave Dr MGR Chennai Central at 17.00 hrs on and from 14th March, 2024 and reach SMVT Bengaluru at 21.25 hrs, the same day

In return direction, Train No. 20663 will leave SMVT Bengaluru at 07.50 hrs on and from 14th March, 2024 and reach Dr MGR Chennai Central at 12.25 hrs, the same day

The details of timings and stoppages of regular run till 04th April, 2024 between Dr MGR Chennai Central and SMVT Bengaluru are as follows:

In return direction Train No. 20664 Dr MGR Chennai Central – Mysuru Vande Bharat Express (Except Wednesdays) will leave Dr MGR Chennai Central at 17.00 hrs with effect from 05th April, 2024 and reach Mysuru at 23.20 hrs, the same day

Extension of Thiruvananthapuram – Kasaragod Vande Bharat up to Mangaluru Central

Flagged off by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 24th September 2023, T.No. 20631/20632 Kasaragod –Thiruvananthapuram Central – Kasaragod Vande Bharat Express is garnering good patronage among rail users and runs with appreciable occupancy rates.  The service has now been extended upto Mangaluru, the coastal city of Karnataka.

Enhancing connectivity between Kerala and Karnataka.  The extension will enhance the connectivity between Kerala and Karnataka saving considerable travel time between Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru.  Pilgrimage and regional Tourism to get a significant boost with the prime pilgrim and tourist attractions falling the route.

PM will also dedicate the following facilities in Southern Railway

  • Pitline at Basin Bridge, Chennai (24-LHB coach CAMTECH Standard Pitline)
  • Goods Sheds at 6 locations – Singaperumal Koil, Gangaikondan, Teni , Pattukottai, Tiruturaipundi and Valliyur
  • Jan Aushadi Kendras at 4 locations – Dindigul, Erode, Tiruchchirappalli and Palakkad
  • Vanchi Maniyachchi – Nagercoil Doubling Project
  • Rail Coach Restaurant at Dr MGR Chennai Central
  • One Station One Product stalls at 205 stations

Ceremonial functions will be held at over 200 locations in Southern Railway which will be connected to  PM’s main function in Gujarat.  Elected representatives and other invitees will grace the events at these locations.
