In a dazzling showcase of badminton talent, over 1,020 gifted young players from every corner of Karnataka took center stage at the 7th edition of the PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship in 2023. This eagerly anticipated sporting spectacle culminated on Monday in a thrilling finale at the prestigious Karnataka Badminton Association Stadium where 10 budding badminton champions emerged victorious in their respective categories.
In the youth badminton tournament, there were impressive performances across various age categories. In the Boys Singles Under 9 category, Chandramohan Tharun dominated the competition, defeating K.S. Srujan with a strong score of 15-8 14-15 & 15-6. Similarly, in the Girls Singles Under 9 category, Samruddhi Tandle exhibited her remarkable prowess, defeating T Yashonidhi with an impressive score of 13-15, 15-11 & 15-3.
In the Boys Singles Under 11 category, ND Nakulan Hari outperformed Sunil Sanshray (Bengaluru), securing a resounding victory with a score of 11-15, 15-10 & 15-10. Meanwhile, in the Girls Singles Under 11 category, Shariff Sumayyah exhibited her remarkable prowess, defeating Lenka Adyasha with an impressive score of 15-10 & 15-8.
In the Boys Singles Under 13 category, Adrien Edward showcased his remarkable skills on the badminton court, outperforming Gowda Amogh with a thrilling match, securing a resounding victory with a scoreline of 15-7 & 15-13. Meanwhile, in the Girls Singles Under 13 category, S Smriti displayed her prowess by defeating Sushank Adithi with scores of 11-15, 15-12 & 15-14, establishing herself as a formidable competitor in her age group.
In the Girls Singles Under 15 category, JN Kohana exceled against Bijoy Tanya. Kohana overcame a challenging opponent, securing victory with scores of 15-13 & 15-6, further solidifying her reputation as a dominant force in the tournament. Meanwhile, in the Boys Singles Under 15 category, Reddy Yeshas M demonstrated his exceptional skills, defeating Palakshalah Swaroop convincingly with a scoreline of 15-10 & 15-11, making a strong statement in his age group.
In the Boys Singles Under 17 category, Sankeerth P secured a strong victory against Santosh Dhyan with scores of 11-15, 15-5 & 15-11. In the Girls Singles Under 17 division, Santosh Disha (Bangalore) exhibited her prowess, defeating Sathish Haritha with the score of 15-13, 8-15 & 15-10.
Adding to the event’s grandeur, Sourabh Lohtia, Head of Marketing, PNB MetLife, Murali Subramanyam, Valued Partner, Agency Channel, PNB MetLife, Manoj Kumar G Hospetimath, President, Karnataka Badminton Association (KBA), P Rajesh, Honorary Secretary, Karnataka Badminton Association (KBA), Kiran Bellam, Vice President, Karnataka Badminton Association (KBA) & Shivaraj C Martur, Vice President, Karnataka Badminton Association (KBA) graced the closing ceremony. They presented the young champions with the coveted JBC Trophy, symbolizing their exceptional achievements.
