Police foiled the Main Opposition Congress’s bid to ‘gherao’ the Vidhan Saudha and taking out a rally from the state capital on Monday. Protesting against the ruling BJP’s attempt to gag the voice of dissent, Congress leaders and workers along with job aspirants who had appeared in the recent government recruitment examination sat on dharna at Sayagrah Chhavni.
As a precautionary measure, Gandhinagar district magistrate and collector had already issued prohibitory orders, on Sunday, on gathering of people in view of the commencement of the Assembly session on Monday. Gandhinagar was turned into a fortress as the government has deployed over 1,500 police personnel as a precautionary measure.
Congress workers who were heading towards Gandhinagar to lay siege to the Vidhana Saudha from different parts of the state were either blocked or diverted before they could reach the capital on Monday morning.
The workers were blocked by the police and prevented them from entering inside Gandhinagar, said the Leader of the Opposition Paresh Dhanani. Speaking to reporters, Paresh said that they are fighting for the betterment and welfare of the farmers, unemployed educated youths and to eradicate examination scams.
Addressing the cadres at Satyagrah Chhavani, the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Chavda accused the Vijay Rupani government of playing with the life of the youths in allowing scams in examinations. The party has announced to lay siege to Vidhan Soudha, he added.
Chavda alleged that the cadres were being monitored through the CCTV by the police, cadres are blocked at all the entries to the Gandhinagar.
