Puducherry recorded a dip in the daily count of coronavirus cases with 73 fresh infections on Saturday, taking the overall tally to 35,744. Three people, including a 55 year old woman from Yanam, died due to the virus, pushing the toll to 601.
A release from Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said 73 new cases were identified at the end of examination of 3,981 samples during last 24 hours ending 10 am on Saturday. While Puducherry accounted for 58 cases, Karaikal and Yanam regions had two fresh cases each while Mahe had 11. The deceased had complaints of co-morbidities like diabetes and hypertension.
The Director said 494 patients were discharged from hospitals during the last 24 hours. The fatality and recovery rates were 1.68 percent and 94.93 percent respectively, he said. Of the total 35,744 Covid-19 cases, 1,212 were active, 33,931 patients were treated and discharged so far, the Director said.
