The 80-year-old Kalki Group on Wednesday announced venturing into the production of a series of travelogues based on Kalki’s Magnum Opus ‘PonniyinSelvan’ titled ‘Paraak Paraak, Kalkiyin PonniyinSelvan’ on the day of Adiperukku. This coincides the same day when the history novel began its journey @Veeranam Lake in the year 1950.
The 15-episode series covering the entire journey of Kalki’s PonniyinSelvan beginning from Veeranam lake, the 9-day epic tour covers 55 locations across 10 districts and 8 major towns, unravelling the mysterious of Kadambur Maaligai, analysing the characters introduced by Kalki, finding answers based on the clues given by the author and visiting all those spots that were until now considered not accessible. The travel culminates at Kadalmallai – Mamallapuram.

Addressing on this occasion, Kaalachakram Narasimmaa (former Managing Editor of THE HINDU fondly called in short as TAN) said, “I was honoured to head the product to script and anchoring the prestigious historical project. Soon after retiring from THE HINDU, got a call from the grand daughters’ Lakshmi Natarajan, Kalki Group’s CEO and Editor and Seetha Ravi to undertake the project.”
He said the travelogue (documentary) produced aiming to rekindle to those who do not read the printed version of PonniyinSelvan and also to educate the youngsters about the historical treasure of the past.
TAN said the locations of the shoot include Kattumannarkoil, Kadambur Palace, Kodumbalur, Kallanai, Kodiyakkarai, Thirukoilur, Mahabalipuram and Thakkolam. He said, in many places the historical structures were in bad or dilapidated condition.
While answering a query, Seetha Ravi said that the makers of PonniyinSelvan need not obtain permission from the Kalki Group to produce the film and hope that they will not drifted from its originality of the novel, as the novel had been nationalized during 1999.
Kalki Group CEO and Editor Lakshmi Natarajan welcomed the gathering.
