President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Mahasamadhi Centenary observance of Sree Narayana Guru at Sivagiri Mutt, Varkala, Kerala, on Thursday. The event marked a solemn and spiritual tribute to one of India’s greatest reformers, philosophers, and visionaries whose teachings continue to illuminate paths of equality and harmony.

Addressing the gathering, the President said, “Sree Narayana Guru was one of India’s great spiritual leaders and social reformers. He was a saint and philosopher who profoundly influenced the social and spiritual landscape of our country. He inspired generations to believe in the ideals of equality, unity, and love for humanity.”

Recalling the Guru’s lifelong dedication to eradicating social evils, President Murmu observed, “He devoted his life to liberating people from the darkness of ignorance and superstition. He believed in the oneness of all existence and taught that God is the divine presence within every living being.”

Highlighting the Guru’s timeless message, she said, “His powerful call of ‘One Caste, One Religion, One God for Mankind’ went far beyond the boundaries of religion, caste, and creed. He reminded us that real liberation comes from knowledge and compassion, not from blind faith.”
The President noted that Sree Narayana Guru’s temples, schools, and social institutions became centres of literacy, self-reliance, and moral awakening among the oppressed. His writings in Malayalam, Sanskrit, and Tamil combined profound philosophical insight with simplicity, making spiritual wisdom accessible to all.
Emphasising the enduring relevance of the Guru’s message, President Murmu said, “In today’s divided world, Sree Narayana Guru’s message of unity reminds us that all human beings share the same divine essence. His call for oneness, equality, and mutual respect offers a timeless solution to the conflicts faced by humanity.”
As the centenary observance continues, the President urged citizens to draw inspiration from Sree Narayana Guru’s vision of a society built on compassion, knowledge, and universal brotherhood—principles that remain vital for India’s social harmony and moral progress.
