With a view to make undergraduate students of commerce aware about the Indian equity markets and investments, Prin. MC Shah Commerce College, organised a ‘SMARTs Investor Awareness programme’ for students of the institution. The programme was organised on Wednesday morning, at the campus of Navgujarat Group of Colleges situated along Ashram Road in Ahmedabad, in association with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the BSE (formerly, the Bombay Stock Exchange).
Prin. MC Shah Commerce College, a five decades-old college, is part of the Navgujarat Group of Colleges and dedicated to excellence in commerce education.
SMARTs stands for Securities Market Trainers, a SEBI initiative aimed at enhancing investor education and awareness in every district of India. SMARTs conduct programs for the general public (prospective / existing investors) with an objective of spreading awareness in the securities market. These programmes are typically conducted in the local language.
The programme held at the institution was facilitated by Arun Chaubey, a SEBI-designated SMART. Some 90 students from Prin MC Shah Commerce College participated in the programme.
“With the intervention of technology and rising awareness about the Indian equity markets and mutual funds, a number of youngsters as well as adults, have turned to investing their money into the stock markets. Besides increasing investor interest, market-driven investments also provide an array of career opportunities for young graduates in the field of commerce. With a view to prepare students for changing industry requirements, this SMARTs Investor Awareness Programme has been facilitated by the institute,” said Dr ND Shah, Principal of the institute.
The programme helped students get familiarised with equity-linked investments. At the same time, they also learnt about the risks involved in such investments and the returns on investments. The programme was well-designed as it provided a holistic perspective to students including the information about SEBI compliances.
The workshop proved to be useful in bringing awareness among commerce students at Prin MC Shah Commerce College about the career and investment opportunities in the area of stock broking and investment consultancy.
