The students and faculty members of Principal MC Shah Commerce College, celebrated the 96th birth anniversary of Shri MC Shah. Shri MC Shah, fondly known as Principal MC Shah, is the founder of Navgujarat Group of Colleges. Born on April 15, 1929, the noted educationist dedicated his life to the cause of education.
As part of the celebration, students of Principal MC Shah Commerce College, garlanded his framed photograph and offered their prayers. Students also collected information about him and narrated the biography of the noted educator during the celebration held at the college campus.
Shri MC Shah was a revered educationist. He was an active member of the syndicate body of Gujarat University. His co-authored books along with Prof. Hakani were well known across academic circles.
Under his leadership Navgujarat Group of Colleges were founded. Initially, the college operated in a single shift offering graduation courses in Arts and Commerce. Over the years, the operations of Commerce and Arts colleges were shifted to the morning shifts and additional graduation course batches in Commerce, Law and BCA also began during the afternoon shifts.
After his death, the Navgujarat Commerce College was rechristened as Principal MC Shah Commerce College in his fond memory. Taking forward his efforts in the education sector, Snehal Shah, managing trustee and trustees Mukesh Shah, and Ajay Shah, facilitated the construction of a new campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr ND Shah, Principal of the institute recollected Shri Shah’s contribution to the senate-syndicate body of the Gujarat University. He also spoke about the books jointly authored by Shah and Hakani.
The entire program was organised by Principal Dr ND Shah, Dr (Professor) Janak Kavaiya and Dr (Professor) Margi Desai.
Harshraj Singh, a Semester-2 student, spoke extensively about Shri Shah’s enthusiasm, hard work, and patriotism and his crucial role in the Mahagujarat movement. The student also elaborated upon the learnings from the educationist’s life.
During the ceremony, Shaili Tiwari, a Semester-4 student, said that Navgujarat College was named by Jyotindra Dave, taking inspiration from Principal M C Shah’s simple life, patience, and philanthropic nature. She also spoke about his career as a principal which began from SV College and his role in the Mahagujarat Movement. She also elaborated on how students can take inspiration from his qualities.
Heli Mewada, a Semester-2 student sketched a beautiful portrait of Principal MC Shah and presented it to the college.
This is the first time that Shri Shah’s birth anniversary was celebrated by the students for the first time in the college campus.
Prof. Janak Kaviya, a professor at the college, spoke about his spirit of tolerance. He also shared how taking the path shown by MC Shah led him to give excellent education to students and also turn to philanthropy.
